Anika Smulovitz, Myrtle Hadas, sterling silver flower and pods
Myrtle Hadas (spice box)
sterling silver; 24" x 11 1/2" x 6 1/2"
photographed by Richard Gerke

After researching the origin of the Havdalah tradition of smelling spices at the end of the Sabbath, I found that the oldest reference to this tradition speaks of smelling a branch of myrtle. In honor of the origin of this tradition, I created a spice box that is a magnified representation of the myrtle plant.
