Like a crow or magpie, while I hike, travel, and wonder through life, I collect bits of detritus as I go. Shiny and colorful, rusted and broken, beach glass and ordinary gray river rocks - these bits and pieces connect me to place, to my travels, and to my memories. This brooch is an old journal entries remembering my time teaching at Penland and hiking around the Penland campus in North Carolina.
